This video series assists struggling readers and spellers in connecting letter sounds (phonics) with written letters. It specifically targets single-syllable words with short vowels, providing a comprehensive coverage of all single-syllable short vowel words.

How It Works:

Each video has three parts:

  1. First, watch as each letter appears and is sounded out. The short vowel is highlighted in a different color. After the word is complete, a picture appears showing what the word means.
  2. Next, sound out the word along with the instructor as each letter appears. The picture appears again.
  3. Finally, try sounding out the word by yourself as each letter appears.

Why This Works:

  1. Learning through Effort: Neuroscience tells us that we remember by trying to remember. So, the small amount of effort sends a signal to our brain to remember. Each time you try to sound out the word on your own, you send this signal. Thereby, you’re strengthening your reading skills.
  2. Smart Picture Timing: Unlike traditional similar seeming systems that show pictures and words together (which can turn students into word-guessers), these videos show the word first, then the picture. Unfortunately, to the detriment of millions of students, hundreds of millions have been spent by US schools on systems that present the image and the word together—turning them into word guessers and decreasing their reading abilities. This program is a simple fix for that issue.
  3. Multi-Sensory Learning: Students see the letters, hear the sounds, say the sounds, and see a picture that gives meaning to the word. Using multiple senses helps the brain learn better.
  4. Building Confidence: The three-step process (watch, do together, do alone) helps students gradually build confidence while learning.

Simple Instructions:

  1. Find a quiet place to watch the videos
  2. Follow along with each video, doing what the instructor asks
  3. Practice daily for best results
  4. Don’t rush – it’s okay to pause or replay if needed

That’s it! The videos will guide you through everything else.

These exercises are designed to build strong reading skills without developing bad habits that could hurt reading progress later on. With consistent practice, students can expect to see significant improvements in their reading abilities.

Please continue to repeat the lessons until they are very comfortable.
