About Philip Weaver

Philip Weaver founded Learning Success. He reviews every article we publish.

Learning Success has spent fifteen years helping parents make sense of what they see at home. Phil is the person accountable for what we publish.

Where it started

Phil began teaching martial arts in 1995, in a very small town. His teacher was the late Grandmaster Al Moore. He had one rule for the style. Adults only. Never children.

The town was too small for an adults-only school. So Phil taught kids.

Many of those kids struggled in school. Some with reading. Some with math. Some with sitting still and paying attention.

So he changed how he taught. He broke every move into tiny steps. Where an adult learned a move in one lesson, he made fifteen small steps.

That idea still runs through Learning Success. Small steps, built one at a time.

The martial arts

The art is Shou' Shu', and Phil is a primary student of Grandmaster Moore. His students know him as Shun Shifu.

That tradition teaches: steady eyes, steady mind. Our eye work comes from that teaching, and from his decades in it.

What he does now

  • He sets the direction for Learning Success and what we teach.
  • He runs the AI team behind Laura Lurns. He designs it and writes the rules it follows.
  • He reviews every article before it goes out.

What he is not

Phil is not a doctor or a psychologist. He does not diagnose children, and neither does Learning Success. Only a professional can diagnose, or get a child an IEP or 504 plan.
